Ardbeg Supernova SN2014 Committee Release
55%
Colour: Pale straw
Nose: Smoke from a burnt down charcoal fire, pineapple, lemon zest, vanilla, liquorice, freshly waxed hospital floor, cloves and pepper. Water brings out more of the phenolic notes.
Palate: Obviously strong sooty peat paired with strong vanilla, fruit emerges later, mainly pineapple, some lime and hints of banana, cloves, nutmeg and white pepper.
Finish: Very long, dry and phenolic, some Black Forest ham very late.
Overall: So far I have only tasted the 2009 version of the Supernova which stupefied me. In a way this is much more civilzed but still very powerful stuff. There are enough other aromas present to prevent this from turning into a mere peat bomb.
Rating: 88/100
