TWE søster kompagni lancerer ny islay Alias

Malts and More netbutikken kalder den Caol Ila:

Mon ikke det kunne være en Talisker? - Med en ABV på 45.8%

And also Port Askaig 25 yo (45.8%, Specialty Drinks, 2009) As the excellent bottlers wrote, ‘in a world of change and innovation, there is still a place for the tried and tested approach.' No doubt about that! In any case, just like the official Talisker 10yo, this new Port Askaig is bottled at Imperial 80 proof, that is to say 45.8% vol. As for the malt inside, well, both the name and the view of the Paps of Jura suggest"¦ Your guess! Colour: pale gold. Nose: a clean and fruity start, with whiffs of liquorice allsorts, dill and celery flight around, then a little cinchona/bitter tonic, the whole getting then more focused on everything from ‘there', that is to say wood ashes, wet sand (the beach, really), motor oil (and paraffin), a little gentian and other rooty notes. Finally a little fresh marzipan (not cheapo confectionary), infused green tealeaves, and maybe white cherries and overripe apples. More and more coastal on ‘subsequent nosing'. Mouth: rather round and even kind of mellow, reminding me of old versions of Caol Ila in a certain way (pre-1974). Some liquorice, notes of salty oysters, the lemon that goes well along, then quite some nutmeg and a little cinnamon from the oak, plain wood (chewed pencil), maybe a little tapioca (faint dustiness) and finally hints of cherries just like we had on the nose (not too ripe bigaroons). Medium peatiness. Finish: medium to long, with a nice clean ‘smoky/dusty bitterness', apple peel, and more spices in the aftertaste (pepper and cardamom). Comments: not a peat monster, rather a gentleman of an Islayer, in the league where most flawless 25yo Islayers lie. SGP:365 - 90 points.

Port Askaig 17yo
Year - Age - 17yo ABV - 45.8%
Colour - Light Gold .
Nose - Bit restrained at first , then Citrus (Lemon) , gradually the smoke and peat seeps through . There's also a hint of Chocolate in the Background .
Taste - Medicinal on the palate at first , Creamy Fudge , honey , then soft peat and smoke .
Finish - Long , Warming , Sweet (Honey and fudge) and peat , gets peatier by the dram.
Comments - Beautifully balanced , gets better and better at every try . Where's it from ? If i had to guess , it's the one in the next Bay to Port Askaig , though there is more than a hint of my Favourite South Shore Whisky in it.......

Port Askaig 25yo
Year - Age - 25yo ABV - 45.8%
Colour - Gold .
Nose - Very Honeyed at first , then a mellow Medicinalness with smoke and Vanilla .
Taste - Slightly more Medicinal on the palate , a little bit spicy , touch of peatiness , but definitely more Medicinal .
Finish - Long , again creamy and Mellow . Medicinal after a while .
Comments - A fantastic aged Islay , very drinkable , infact too damn drinkable ! Again if pushed it's from just North of Port Askaig.....

Port Askaig 25y (45,8%, Whisky Exchange 2009)

Port Askaig 25yo
Nose: much more fragrant and delicate than the cask strength. Less phenols and coal smoke, but more fruit. Beautiful citrus notes (orange blossom water), sweet melon and yellow apple. Some blueberries and waxy notes. Ashes and smoke in the distance. Hints of lemon. Mouth: sweet and malty. Very mellow. More lemon. More spicy oak influence as well (nutmeg). Nice vanilla. Towards the finish, lovely notes of cocoa and mocha. With a drop of water, it gets fruitier and the oranges and berries get noticeable again. Finish: good length. This is where the fruit fades and the peat smoke appears. Getting drier and peppered.

Very good and really elegant. The flavour profile is quite different from the Port Askaig Cask Strength. Less maritime and less straightforward.
Around € 85. Highly recommended.

Score: 88/100

Port Askaig 17 yo
Islay
By: Speciality Drinks Ltd
45.8% ABV
£49.99
Colour: Light white wine
Nose: Lemon tart or meringue, mint, crushed weeds, biscuit cake base, quite sweet. Elegant refined smoke, a touch of swimming pool and crushed pepper. With water it's juicier, sweeter and fruitier. Bananas and grapefruit.
If Supernova is a bazooka, this is an épée!
Palate: Much smokier than the nose. Powerful, big and gorgeous. Sweet cream and gooseberry.
Finish: Developing, smoky, bitter and fine. As in Fine-Fine.
Overall: Yes. Super juice. Quality stuff. If the right occasion was there, we can totally imagine going throug a whole bottle. You finish what's in your glass, and you instantly want another one. A treat for Islay lovers, unmissable.

****

Port Askaig 25 yo
Islay
By: Speciality Drinks Ltd
45.8% ABV
£74.99
Colour: Inside of a cooking apple
Nose: Serious syrupiness, green apple, overripe and soft pear, a touch of sanitiser and a handful of smoke. Grapefruit again.
Palate: Brown sugar sweetness, waves of oak and malt. Smoke nowhere to be found. Fizzy grapefruit juice.
Finish: Vanillish, nutty and sour to start with and then building up in juiciness like there is no tomorrow. Smoke present.
Overall: A bit more complex than the 17 yo, but not as intense and elegant. Still very nice.
